So yeah I hate networking crap. With most things that deal with computers I dont have too hard of a time. In fact if I had a nickel for everytime Ive stood over some user's pc with a problem and that user swore that I fixed whatever problem they had by just standing near the computer, I'd be rich. Not so today.

I went out yesterday and bought a new wireless router so that I could use this laptop at home from the comfort of my easy chair and surf the net. Seems like it would be easy to just add it to my current setup of a cable modem and wired router. But nooooooo. I switched out the old router with the new wireless one last night, updated my domain host for my site and called it a night. This morning I woke up and found that port forwarding was just not working at all, no matter how I changed the settings. This is bad. I have an important football that I am running from my site and it's sunday. I need my site up.

After 2 hours of crap this morning I eventually switched back to my original gear and had to change my domain host again. Then tonight I played with it for alteast another 2 hours. The key was a nice little undocumented feature to run the router as a bridge between the wired and wireless network which took a secret page on my new router to get to. CA_HiddenPage.htm. Yes that is a GREAT name Netgear GREAT. Id love to hear the tech who created that page explain it to the marketing people. It had one radio button option to disable some configuration assistant option. assitant ??? wtf come on.

Finally though I have it working. And posting this from the easy chair is pretty nice.
